A few days after Christmas, my children and I were invited to the home of my sister-in-law to see their new Kidkraft Savannah Dollhouse. It was quite a spectacle, to say the least! This dollhouse was extremely elegant, spacious, and had approximately six rooms. It was literally a miniaturized mansion that my children immediately fell in love with and that left me feeling slightly inadequate given the relatively modest gifts my husband and I gave our children.
To my surprise and astonishment, the Kidkraft Savannah Dollhouse was furnished with everything you could imagine, and was styled as a “southern mansion” complete with wood furnishings. I walked over to it and I couldn’t believe how sturdy and well-built it appeared to be. While the kids played, I spoke to my sister-in-law. I really wanted to know what gave her the idea to purchase a dollhouse of this size and magnitude.
She explained that when she had been a child growing up, her parents had been extremely poor. As a result, she never really had the opportunity to play with toys like the other kids. Children seem to spend more and more time in front of the television and in front of computers these days. It’s both refreshing and nice to see that there is something out there that can keep a child busy and help the child learn new things while at the same time keeping them away from the remote control.
